In 1899 Thomas Oldham Barlow’s daughters, Lucy and Mary Anna, were involved in embroidering squares for a Friendship Quilt. It was begun by their friend Marianne Barrett, wife of the artist Jerry Barrett, and was completed in 1909. As well as Lucy and Mary Anna, there were 32 other women each of whom embroidered decorative motifs, along with their names, onto squares.

The Quilt went on display in April 2009 for what is believed to be the first time since its completion 100 years ago, and can be viewed at the Quaker Tapestry Exhibition Centre in Kendal, Cumbria.
